В ядре - модуль slamr из пакета kernel-modules-slmodem
Также должен быть демон slmodemd ищ не помню какого пакета.
В отсутствие пакета slamr у демона должна быть возможность работать
через ALSA с моделем intel-8x0m или аналогичным для других чипсетов.
slmodemd не ловит busy (как и большинство буржуйских модемов), в
остальном работает.
Почитайте доки к нему, где описаны грабли с kppp и gnome-ppp/wvdial
