Я в таких случаях предпочитал удалять все из /tmp (с livecd), а то
еще бывало xfs отваливался, иксы не поднимались :) . Еще важны
атрибуты на нем, кроме 777 - sticky bit.
А вообще, после того как /tmp стал tmpfs от таких сюрпризов гарантирован.
