В вашем случае не требуется, поскольку из названия костыля
вытекает, что он нужен для ISA Plug'n'Pray карт. У вас же
нормальный человеческий SB16.
Что делать? Смотреть, нет ли конфликта звуковухи с какой-то
другой картой. Пробовать переставлять в другие слоты, играть в
BIOS Setup с распределением IRQ. Проверить, как стоят перемычки
на саундбластере (может оказаться, что там стоит _так_, а вы
заводите карту _эдак_).
О, кстати, вспомнил один случай с SB16. Давно это было. На
материнке VIA Apollo Pro при попытке прослушать 16-битный звук
ОЧЕНЬ сильно трещало в правой колонке, левая -- чисто. 8-битный
же звук играл отлично. Перепробовал все. Проблема решилась
заменой материнки на Intel-чипсет и последующим торжественным
расстрелом via-шного дерьма из пневматики.
