Посмотрите в /var/log логи X-сервера. Если он отвергает
прописанный Вами видеорежим из-за превышения частот вертикальной
или горизонтальной развертки, значит, можно осторожно (!!!)
попробовать покрутить параметры HorizSync и VertRefresh. И то
только в том случае, если те частоты, которые указал сервер в
логе, не превышают допустимых согласно мануалу на монитор.
Если же прописанный Вами видеорежим в логе вообще не
упоминается, значит, Вы его прописали не туда. :(
