У меня недавно происходило что-то удаленно напоминающее описанное... И мне
показалось, что виноват может быть rmmod -a, запускаемый cron'ом. Никаких
рациональных объяснений я этому не нашел, но тем не менее сделал
chkconfig --del crond, и траблы больше не повторяются (они были связаны с
тем, что pppd "засыпал" через некоторое время). Без него довольствуюсь
anacron.
