Сейчас читал материалы конференции по открытым программа О'Рейли и встретил
в такое место:

Tiemann also said that Microsoft was not willing to peacefully coexist with
the open source community "as part of the ecosystem" but was taking steps to
thwart it where the company felt it impinging on its business. The Samba
open source code has translated files between Windows and Linux systems, but
existing versions were rendered out of date by a change to the Server
Message Block (SMB) file sharing protocol in Windows 2000, he noted.

Samba developers could reverse-engineer the changes, but Microsoft has
patented them, making anyone who incorporates the change into their software
guilty of patent infringement, Tiemann noted. Until the SMB change, Samba
allowed a Linux server to function in place of a Windows server.

А почему же у меня дома Samba (Spring2001 изначальный) вполне мирно
уживается с Win2000Pro?
За исключением того, что WinAmp на Win русские названия песен c MP3-CD на
машинке с Linux не воспринимает - за три месяца ни одного нюанса, причем
ресурсы разделяются в обе стороны.

They added some stuff in SP2.

Т. е. если я поставлю SP2 для Win2000, то мирное сожительство Linux и
Win2000 через Samba прекратится?

Samba 2.2.0 + Win2K SP 2 or WinXP

With Service Pack 2 Microsoft have added some new
RPC calls and uses them to join the domain, the same
RPC calls are found on Windows XP Beta release.

Samba 2.2.0 does not have this new set of RPC calls
and this make problems to Win2000-sp2 and winXP.

Samba Team have yet fixed this bug in CVS tree and
it will be solved in samba-2.2.1 for both Win2000-sp2
and WindowsXP
