По личному опыту: проверить права на шрифты.
При обновлении какого-то пакета еще с Appendix у меня было тоже самое
(к сожалению не помню какой именно пакет)
один или два шрифтовых файла читать не может никто, кроме root.
именно по этому xfs запускается руками из под root.
проще всего, наверное, будет сделать
chmod -R a+r /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/* /usr/share/fonts/default/*
ну или любые другие пути, где шрифтовые файлы лежат.
