если он внешний то и не найдет :-)
в ком-порт втыкается шнурок специальный (от модема - НЕ пойдет), должен быть в комплекте, или от другого упса выдрать можно. шнурки эти маркируются типа 940-0005C (список можно почитать в пакете nut, man genericups). на крайняк можно спаять, там всего 3 провода, распайка в том же мане или в ups-howto из пакета howto-html-en.
софтина apcupsd (не знаю, на back-ups не смог запустить) или nut (там все просто).
я вот именно с APC Back-UPS Pro занимался любовью все выходные
разошлись усталые но довольные :-)
