[Comm] Странное с видеокартой

Доброго дня всем!

Помогите, люди добрые... неохота все с нуля переустанавливать...
Имеем АльтЛинукс т6 со всеми последними обновлениями.

Использую КДЕ4. В какой-то момент - при совершенно безобидном действии
(в GQview пытался сфотку повернуть на 90% ч помощью Гимпа) десктоп
виснет. Когда ждать надоело, через Ctrl-Alt-F1 перешел в консоль - и
иногда это помогает десктопу "прочухаться". По возвращении обратно -
десктоп пергрузился... в режиме 800х600 (это при том, что у меня
монитор 22 дюйма и разрешение 1680x1050 стояло и работало).

Перезагрузки - в том числе с разными ядрами - не помогли. Решил, что
загнулась видеокарта, однако загрузка с Кноппикса показала, что с
железом все в порядке.

 (до этого перепробовал ядра начиная с 3.2 - без толку).

В конфиге вроде все верно (сгенерирован x11_autosetup, убраны только
мЕньшие разрешения), да и не менял ничего:

Впечатление, что либо видеодрайвер поехал, либо какой-то конфиг - вот
только какой??

Попытки запуска конфигурации монитора в КДЕ дает только одно
разрешение - 800х600.

Сижу как дурак... Есть какие-то идеи?
