Не знаю насчёт религий, но ndiswrapper IMHO вещь вполне нормально
работающая. Как-то делал ноутбук (актуальный на то время) и
пользовался ndiswrapper для Atheros wifi.
Однако, если у Вас Broadcom wifi, то, скорее всего, работать будет и так.

Ещё здорово знать зависимости и иметь чёткие методические указания.
