Видимо вопрос, как всегда, именно в задаче.
Если это нетбук с SSD, то желание понятно и даже по своему разумно.
Если это вопрос экономии места на накопителе в сервере... То возможны
варианты. Может быть стоит просто усилить ротацию, сжатие, уменьшить
информативность лога или действительно вынести на внешнее устройство.
А ещё бывает встроенная система, где с одной стороны как на нетбуке а
с другой могут и пригодиться.
