А я некоторое время мучился... Пытаясь понять почему же

По идее не должно. Кстати мне так и не получилось завести у себя mppe
с этим провайдером, хотя под виндой оно прекрасно работает.

Хм. Взять ядро из сизифа и пересобрать его в среде мастера. PPP тоже
нужно брать умеющий mppc. В сизифе сейчас он вроде бы опять не умеет
это. Свой я брал давно и к несчастью потерял.... Хотя провайдер
вообще сжатие отключил.
