А теперь ткните носом, плиз, где подробно об этом прочитать. То, что
"лампочки модема" вызывают pppd, я в курсе. Осталось:
1. Разрешить запуск pppd от юзера - Как?
2. Настроить pppd на дозвон, по возможности, с перебором номеров -
Как? man pppd не очень вдохновил.
