Хрен его знает. Кстати, стандартный режим 80x25 -- именно 9x16.
А какого режима хочется? Чтобы смотрелся, как стандартный, но символов
побольше умещалось? Тогда можно нарисовать 90x25/8x16. Или
90x28/8x14....
Но сначала, конечно, имеет смысл попробовать режимы из стандартного
конфига (помнится, что-то там было специально-под-какой-то-ноутбук).
Неужели ни один не работает?
