Да ну... Я тут когда-то уже писал о такого рода проблемах в mc.
С помощью terminfo они не решались (и если речь идёт о mc 4.5.x,
то и не решаются). Вкратце: можно пересобрать mc с
--with-tm-x-support и объяснить ему через Learn Keys, что
Shift-F7 -- это тоже F7. А про шифт он тогда у X-сервера
спрашивать будет.

А это совсем зря. Безотносительно к предыдущему абзацу: если
есть проблемы соответствия terminfo и эмулятора терминала, надо
привести их в соответствие. В случае aterm и пр. придётся
корёжить базу terminfo, причём на всех машинах, на которые мы
ходим с этого терминала. А вот в случае xterm можно "выпрямить"
именно поведение xterm'а (через translations) -- и это гораздо
удобнее.
Что же касается подхода "лучше перебрать несколько софтин, чем
разобраться, почему не работает одна, и отбагрепортить" --
полезность его сомнительна. Времени на перебор софтин уходит
столько же или больше, чем на поиск бага -- но пользы окружающим
никакой. Даже вред -- вот вы когда-то, наверное, "обожглись" на
xterm'е, и теперь советуете всем его выкинуть -- да ещё как раз в
тех случаях, где он лучший.
