Вообще-то есть рекомендации по пользованию рассылкой. И там написано,
что письма _нужно_ отправлять в koi8-r plaintext с заворачиванием

Я тут не копенгаген, но отвечу на пару вопросов.

Это говорит Конкверор. Для его работы с самбой нужна штука под
названием lisa. Копать соответственно в apt-cache search lisa и далее
по сути или яндексам/гуглам. Это есть штатно в АЛМ2.4 из коробки. Если
не устраивает, то тут уже предлагали smb4k из бэкпортов. Но в любом
случае нужно понимать, что так, как в виндовз, "сетевое окружение" не
заработает никогда.

Перевод адресов в имена делает wins-сервер локальной сети. Значит надо
установить samba client и поправить smb.conf на предмет своей рабочей
группы/домена, адреса wins-сервера и т.п. И почитать man nmblookup.
