sasldb хорошо поддержкой авторизации с хешами, что позволяет не поднимая pop3s/imaps не светить пользовательские пароли.
Ldap - удобен для удаленного администрирования, и, если он будет стоять настроенный, всегда можно придумать для него занятие...
