В мастере 2.0 - да, могло работать.
В мастере 2.2 - для официального ядра надо обязательно
генерировать. Для своего ядра - в том случае, если в него не
вкомпилены драйверы используемых файловых систем.
initrd=initrd.gz
Файл initrd.gz взять из /boot (причем он должен быть правильным,
см. утилиту что-то типа mkinitrd).
