Почему - были. И есть ;) Мои стабильные (условно ;) ) сборки (это чтоб
не посылать человека на торрент-трекеры) здесь:

Как показывают наблюдения - сборки (не раздутые) на KDE3/TDE чувствуют
себя на слабых машинах лучше, чем даже LXDEsktop, проверено.

Я там kppp заменил на (но не активировал по умолчанию) NetworkManager.
Если заинтересует/будут вопросы - можно в джаббер (он же мыло, с
которого сейчас пишу).
