Нашёл вот такой способ:
Есть такой проект -- UNetbootin [http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/].
Качается простой бинарник (для линукс или _Windows_!!!), который
заливает _любой_ образ на флешку и делает её загрузочной. Прога даже
имеет возможность самостоятельно скачивать ряд популярных дистрибутивов
с установкой "корректного" бут-меню (ну это я так - к общему сведению :)
В общем, я успешно залил сабжевый дистр как и хотел - без лишних
телодвижений.
ps. По ходу нашлось готовое решение, как записать дистрибутив АльтЛинукс
на флешку под Windows.
