Подскажите пожалуйста по какой причине для ядер выше 2.6.30 отсутствует
версия драйвера Nvidia 71.86.13 для устаревших адаптеров?

Она не работает с xorg уже на 5.1

Это не совсем то. Новость свежая, а 5.1 уже пару лет от роду.
И драйвер выкинут из модулей ядра
kernel-modules-nvidia-std-def-195.36.24-alt0.M51.1.132638.15, в то время
как пакет nvidia_glx_71.86.13-71.86.13-alt44.i586.rpm достаточно свежий,
от 16-02-2010.
И кстати, какой версии в 5.1 xorg? Разве не 1.6.5?
