IMHO, проблема не в затребованности PDF, а в затребованности
инструментария. По моим наблюдениям, все больший перекос в разработке
наблюдается в сторону inter/intra-net приложений. Конкретно про
генерацию pdf - рекомендую посмотреть на
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tcpdf
Да, это php-class. Но проект активно развивается и меня лично впечатлил
(правда, мне из него надо было только формирование ярлыков со
штрих-кодами, но он кроме этого умеет и многое другое, в т.ч. и какое-то
подмножество HTML).
