С МТСовским модемом я один раз так сделал: на виндовой машине в
программе настроек, что с ним идет убрал галочку "запрашивать пароль".
После этого стало возможнымработать в линуксе. Но не факт, что это
поможет. МТС Коннект украинский, ЮСБ модем.
