У меня выполнено что-то вроде:
# mount usbfs /proc/bus/usb
# mount
none on /proc/bus/usb type usbfs (rw)

... просто таким или иным способом можно узнать, какой драйвер 
используется для кабеля (можно ещё попробовать lsusb -v)
