Пользуются. По некоторым параметрам им до сих пор нет альтернатив, например:
1) самая низкая стоимость расходных материалов
2) практически вечные отпечатки (лазер и чернила со временем выгорают)
3) возможность печати через копирку (для этого есть даже специальные бланки)
4) печатать можно чуть ли не на туалетной бумаге.
Все это делает эти принтера незаменимыми там, где, например, надо
массово печатать всякие чеки и прочие бухгалтерские документы. Выводить
графику на них, конечно - тот еще мазохизм. А вот текст - очень даже можно.

Для печати текста я настраиваю их с помощью механизма "System V style
interface script" - см. man lpadmin. Для печати графики есть более
другие устройства.
