Посмотрите, как монтируется корневой раздел в /etc/fstab. Можно его
монтировать по UUID, например, так:
UUID=be431ae6-3d95-40e4-bc1e-9502696eba23 / ext3
defaults 0 1
UUID можно посмотреть в выводе blkid.
Не уверен, что это заработает со старым ядром, в котором сейчас
загрузка работает, так что на всякий держите livecd/rescuecd под рукой.
