Я бы предположил что проблема не в драйвере, а в том, что почему-то
недоступен локальный принтер. А вот почему? Попробуйте через
http://127.0.0.1:631/
Нужно чтоб кто-то из знающих подсказал в каких случаях выбор локального
принтера недоступен.

Почему? Ведь есть драйвер для 1520...

Если недоступен выбор локального принтера - не думаю что LPT поможет
(может и ошибаюсь). Покажите вывод # lsusb -v из пакета usbutils. И что
с cups? service cups status ?
