Речь же шла о "просто поставить".
Кроме того - "man mkinitrd" не поможет, т. к. нужна задержка при
загрузке для сканирования usb.

PS: Почему-то обсуждение этого вопроса скатывается к созданию
Live-Flash. Хотя сама идея загружать операционную систему из Flash в
RAM - устарела, т. к. сейчас Flash дешевле RAM и часто проще будет
выбросить или переформатировать "испорченную" флешку, как раньше
поступали с дискетами, чем мучить себя сохранением данных на Live-Flash.
Опять же - HDD в "USB-case"
PPS: Почему бы не выпустить "Live HDD" ?
