Можно ещё попробовать перекрыть fullscrenn-splash, что занимает консоли,
каким-нибудь компактным. У меня так это сделано:
splash -s -u 1 /etc/bootsplash/themes/MaxSelect/config/vt0-1024x768.cfg
splash -s -u 2 /etc/bootsplash/themes/MaxSelect/config/vt0-1024x768.cfg
splash -s -u 3 /etc/bootsplash/themes/MaxSelect/config/vt0-1024x768.cfg
splash -s -u 4 /etc/bootsplash/themes/MaxSelect/config/vt0-1024x768.cfg
splash -s -u 5 /etc/bootsplash/themes/MaxSelect/config/vt0-1024x768.cfg
splash -s -u 11 /etc/bootsplash/themes/MaxSelect/config/vt0-1024x768.cfg
