Ну, даже не знаю...
Специально сейчас проверил:
sudo umount /media/floppy - отмонтировал
sudo mcedit /etc/fstab - вытер строчку для флопика
sudo rm -r /media/floppy - вытер каталог для монтирования
sudo service hal restart - рестарт hal'а
После этого все восстановилось.
Это была тестовая система, где все настройки дефолтные.
Правда, без апдейтов, только ядро std26-up-2.6.12-alt7.
Может, hal шалит у вас?
