Посмотреть в сторону виртуальных томов (lvm/evms). (Но как, без
бэкапа, переползти в вашем случаи -- представляю слабо: невидно места
для временного переноса /var.)

Использую запихивание всего (кроме / и /boot) на lvm. Размеры
логических томов делаю с малым запасом, но для дальнейшего увеличения их
размера (и/или добавления новых) -- в группе томов оставляю резерв
пустого пространства.
