Мастер 2.4 + updates. Ноутбук IRU-1714.
Так и не смог настроить модем. Использовал KPPP,GnomePPP,
ppp+chat запуск из shell файла.
slmodemd --RUSSIA
AT+GCI=B8
/dev/modem -> /dev/ttySLM0
Запуск от root
...
Модем соединяется с провайдером, но не может понять ответ.
Если взять параллельный телефон слышен свист, не похожий
на сигналы синхронизации.
В логи выводится только ATZ,ATS ..., ATDP223322.
Как посмотреть, что хочет провайдер и чем обмениваются модемы?

Результат такой же. Смущает различие версий:
slmodemd-2.9.10, модуль ядра slmodem-ll-up-2.9.6.
В WindowsXP модем работал, ставил для проверки.
