На самом деле, я многократно убеждался, что для работы с Юникодом нужен
именно (g)vim, причем как в иксах, так и в консоли. Так что люди,
советовавшие использовать его, правы. Но здесь есть другая проблема:
какой именно диапазон юникодовых символов встречается в Ваших файлах, с
которыми Вы собирались бы работать в консоли? Очень возможно, что Вы
просто не найдете шрифта с нужным покрытием (и это не случайно, т. к.
количество символов в консольных шрифтах ограничено 512-ю).
