IMHO Ваши вопросы попадают в точку.
Atheros - довольно распространённый производитель карточек, особенно в
бюджетных ноутбуках. А уж говорить о необходимости рабочего WiFi и
вовсе не нужно.
Тем не менее, все тяготы по нахождению нужного madwifi, его
компиляции, загрузке - всё переложено на пользователя.
По моим наблюдениям, пользователь с такими вещами не справляется.
Результатом этого практически всегда является продолжение его
зависимости от оффтопика.
