Согласен с Вами.
В моём случае ноутбук брался для девушки, именно бюджетный вариант и
никаких апгрейдов в следующие n лет не планируется.

Может быть карта уже "впала" в состояние Х :)? Может быть стоит
отключить питание, вынуть батарею?
После этого попробовать заново?
Ещё такой момент. Для моего Atheros AG5007E система грузила madwifi'
евский ath модуль, который, естественно, с картой работать не мог. Я
его из списка загружаемых модулей так же убирал ручками, блэклистил.
Возможно, у Вас тоже грузиться какой-нибудь модуль, который "думает,
что подходит", а на самом деле блокирует работу ndiswrapper c
драйвером?
Так же, очень, конечно, дохлая догадка, но, всё же, проверьте лишний раз.
Насколько известно, Toshiba L40 делалась под оффтопик виста, а
ndiswrapper, AFAIK нужен драйвер из под оффтопика XP. Вы уверены, что
у Вас правильный драйвер?
