А при том что скажем вы хотите напрячь iptables на фильтрацию ftp
а у вас соответствующий мод в ядре не подгружен... тут и нужен
insmod... ну про ftp это я наобум ... но имеено для этого...
И вообще - еще раз - такие вещи как firewall лучше делать самому
- руками и с полным пониманием того чего делаешь...
