mbox должен работать быстрее на большем количестве писем.
Вот специально сейчас посмотрел:
mail/_alt: размер 55M, формат mbox, 14155 писем, архив community за
первую половину 2003 года
Maildir/.maillists.alt.community: размер 43M, формат Maildir, 7229
писем, архив за вторую половину 2003 года
mbox открывается mutt'ом приблизительно 10 секунд
Maildir -- приблизительно 30 секунд
файловая система -- reiserfs, Cel 800, 256Mb RAM, хотя RAM здесь особо
роли не играет самое большее mutt отожрал 17Mb при экспериментах.
