Я поставил себе вариант записи через ATAPI, когда кто-то из
разработчиков ядра 2.6 заявил что поддерживаться ide-scsi в новом ядре
не будет.
Из недостатков: Так умеет писать только XCDRoaster, остальные морды (из
состава АЛМ2.2) отказались признавать наличие писалки. Но я пользуюсь
mkisofs+cdrecord...
Из преимуществ: Таки быстрее пишет, чем через ide-scsi (заметно при
записи CD-R на 48x). И для меня лично - SAMSUNG при форматировании
поцарапаных cdrw дисков перестал виснуть намертво...
