Заметил страннось в выводе hdparm
Вот часть вывода hdparm -I:
Capabilities:
LBA, IORDY(can be disabled)

Обратите внимание на строки DMA/UDMA - для hdparm -i она
явно обрезана. При этом фактически UDMA прекрасно работает
hdparm -t показывает 45 Mb/sec. Да и субъективно
всё работает весьма быстро.
Мама - ASUS A7V8X-X на KT400.
Жесткий диск - IBM AVVA 80Mb.
При этом наблюдается ещё только одна маленькая странность.
При загруженом Linux постоянно горит лампочка активности
HDD. В Windows такого не замечено.
