В свое время у меня Interbase (теперь он Firebird) отлично себя показал на Линухе при работе с
виндовыми клиентами, та которых крутились виндовые же клиентские приложения базы данных.
А если юзать связку Apache+PHP+MySQL то ось клиентов вообще пофигу - был бы браузер под рукой.
