У ALSA более продвинутый интерфейс, позволяет лучше задействовать
возможности аппаратуры -- многоканальный ввод/вывод, несколько
звуковых карт, аппаратное микширование потоков
от нескольких программ и т.п.

Только вот Crystal на моем лаптопе
так и не завелся (с OSS проблем не было).
