напустить strace
проверить rpm -V все пакеты или хотя бы те, что затрагиваются Х-ми
У меня такое было с KDE, запортилась какая-то библиотека (md5 не совпала), переписал
ее напрямую из пакета - заработала. А почему файл побился - до сих пор не знаю, ни до
ни после такого не было.
