инсталлятор обходит разделы "Задание пароля для root" и "Создание пользователя"
и по-моему кое-что еще (хотя утверждать не буду - дело было давно, уже не
помню), очевидно полагая, что коль делается обновление, то система уже есть,
всякие пользователи созданы, пароли заданы и сейчас таких действий делать
не надо (а почему бы и нет?). При попытке вернуться назад в "Пароль для root"
все повторяется.
