Ерунда все это, рядом со мной сидит человек с Логитековской беспроводной мышкой. Она программно -ничем- не отличается от IMPS/2, ну, кроме четвертой кнопки :-)
Так вот, настраивается она в X так:
Находите в XF86Config-4 (или XF86Config, если у вас стоит XFree 3.x.x) строку Protocol "xxx" в секции Pointer, где xxx, скорее всего равно PS/2. И заменяете ее на IMPS/2. Это если она у вас подключена к PS/2-порту. Если не так, то man XF86Config-4 на тему настройки мыши, там есть разные типы мышей.
Кроме того, под этой строкой добавьте маппинг 4 и 5 кнопок мыши на z-ось -- ZAxisMapping "4 5"

Это не крайнее средство, это костыль для больного софта.
imwheel мало того, что практически не будет функционировать в современных приложениях, так, например, в gtk-приложениях он функциональность мыши испортит - все будет привязано к фокусу, и если вы будете крутить мышью при imwheel'е над другим прокручиваемым элементом окна (который -не- в фокусе), то прокручиваться будет подфокусный элемент. Жутко раздражает.
