Я бы пробовал загрузиться в BIOS-режиме с поддержкой сессий
да вытащить с полученного rw-раздела /var/log/Xorg.0.log
и /var/log/dmesg хотя бы.
Ну и хорошо бы проверить -- livecd от восьмой рабочей станции
уже так же себя вёл или нет конкретно на этой видеокарточке.

PPS: писал для случая UEFI, не сообразив сходу, что машинка
тех времён, когда этой напасти ещё на x86_64 особо не было:

Если там не осталось BIOS/CSM, то можно и вручную на флэшке
сделать третий раздел с меткой alt-live-storage -- разметку
лучше сами поправьте, а строчка для форматирования -- вот:
mke2fs -t ext4 -O ^has_journal,sparse_super2 -E packed_meta_blocks=1,num_backup_sb=1 -L alt-live-storage /dev/sdX3
(ну или на любой другой системе загрузить разок под BIOS
в режим с сессиями, правда, может понадобиться достаточно
шустрая флэшка -- в UEFI-режиме нет явной выбиралки режима,
а сделана эвристика по скорости чтения с устройства)
