"Кажется" -- это не "точно". Если знать, что на твоём железе
конкретно то и это устанавливается так-то -- хотя бы есть шанс
чинить.

Сделать dmesg > /tmp/dmesg и полученный файл скопировать на
дискетку, флэшку, отдельно отформатированный под FAT раздел диска
-- как угодно, лишь бы унести из livecd, которым является
инсталятор.
