Нужен был бранч с более мягкой политикой обновлений, нежели p5.
На p5 базируется ряд гос. проектов и за его сохранность в нужном
для этих проектров виде люди, исполняющие эти проекты, отвечают.
Соответственно, p5 целиком и полностью под их контролем. Ну и,
дополнительно, он служит платформой для обкатки обновлений для p5.

Очевидно, что интерес к нем сильно упадёт после выхода 6.0, но,
