Если вы это делаете в GNOME, то отражаться это будет в GConf,
путь /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd. Как именно называется
файл, в котором это всё хранится, вам лучше не знать. Просто пользуйтесь
gconf-editor (в графике) и gconf2_get/gconf2_set (в командной строке).
