Надо eval `ssh-agent` (backticks вместо апострофов).

Сделайте ещё set | grep SSH, мож там уже болтается.

Попробуйте ssh -R port:ip:PORT user@ip

На другой машине при том же вводе -- срабатывает

А если оно уже там то почему ssh-add не срабатывает?

с этим разобрался. Мой косяк. Порты port и PORT местами поменял.
Сегодня посмотрю еще раз, dist-upgrade сделаю.
