Если точнее, то правильнее оказалось запускать так:
LANG=en_US.utf8 opera
И проблема явно в "консерватории", причем, кажется, что в адобовской
консерватории, т.к. у этого плагина есть еще одна недружба с юникодовской
неанглийской локалью - при вводе русских букв с клавиатуры они отображаются в
поле ввода как "квадратики с крокозяблами" (при копировании из буфера -
нормально). В онлайновых флэш-играх линуксоиды (да и маковцы тоже) быстро
опознаются в чате по транслиту... :) В багзиле у адоба баг на эту тему давно
висит, но пофиксить обещают только в "следующей майор-версии" (11 ?).
Надеюсь, тогда же пофиксится и сабжевая проблема (ибо ноги судя по всему
растут где-то оттуда же)...
